The titling, registration, and registration renewal for vehicles owned by a business must be completed by an owner or officer of the business, or by someone who has been given authority to do so by an owner or an officer.

Anyone other than an owner or an officer must provide to the Tax Commissioner’s office an Affidavit of Authority to Sign for a Company, Corporation or Partnership.  The Tax Commissioner’s office cannot perform any transactions for anyone other than an owner or officer of the company without this form completed in its entirety.

Any business wishing to title and register a vehicle must also provide a copy of its active business license and be an active entity listed with the Georgia Secretary of State.

Title Information

Fleet Registrations

Hall County businesses with more than five or more fleet transactions must drop off at Hall County Tag Information Station.

Below is a list of items required to title and register a vehicle in the name of a business or fleet:

New Vehicle Purchase

  • Vehicle’s original Manufacturer’s Statement of Origin (MSO) properly assigned over to the new owners (copies not accepted)
  • Completed MV-1 Title Application
  • Completed truck section of the MV-1 Application for trucks with a gross vehicle weight over 14,000 lbs, if applicable
  • Valid Georgia Insurance
  • Copy of the bill of sale
  • Original completed form T-19C (Affidavit of Authority to Sign for a Company, Corporation or Partnership)
  • Valid Georgia driver’s license or ID card of the person on the T-19C authorized to sign for the company
  • IRS Form 2290 Heavy Road Use Tax Form – required for vehicles weighing 55,000 lbs or more

IRS Form 2290 Heavy Road Use Tax

To process a registration for a vehicle with a gross vehicle weight of 55,000 pounds or more, a current year IRS Form 2290 is required.

  • An entirely legible and clear copy of the 2290 must be submitted. It must be stamped by the IRS as received and paid. The stamp must be legible.
    OR
  • A printed copy of the electronic 2290 received by the owner if they filed electronically. Electronically-filed 2290 printouts have an e-file watermark including a received date diagonally printed across the form.
  • A current year Form 2290 must be submitted.
  • A 2290 marked or stamped as “Proof of Delivery” is NOT acceptable.
  • The complete VIN must be listed on the 2290 or its attachment. Whiteout, strikeouts or a partial VIN are not acceptable. It must be entirely legible and clearly unaltered.
  • The current/new owner’s name on the 2290 and on the registration must be exactly the same unless the owner is a subsidiary of the parent company listed on the 2290. Copies of the documentation correlating the names must be included with the 2290. If a vehicle is leased to a company with a name that is different on the 2290 from the vehicle’s registration, a copy of the lease agreement is required.

Used Vehicle Purchase

Business/Enterprise

Vehicles owned by businesses and fleets are registered based on an alphabetical schedule during a 12-month period. The first letter of the business name that appears first on the vehicle’s title and/or tag registration (tag receipt) determines the month designated as the registration period.

Example

  • “A Zebra Company” would register in January because the first letter is A.
  • “The Zebra Company” would register in October because the first letter is T.
  • “Zebra Company” would register in December because the first letter is Z.
  • “123 Cleaning” would register in August because the first letter is O– when pronounced One, Two, Three Cleaning.

Business and Fleet Renewal Information

The registration period for vehicles weighing 26,001-to maximum weight (non-international registration plan) is from December 1 through February 15.

A current year Form 2290/Schedule 1 is required for vehicles weighing 55,000 pounds or more.

The following are required to renew the registration for a vehicle titled or registered to a business or fleet:

  • Renewal notice
  • Valid Georgia Insurance
  • Indicate change of address on back of the renewal notice, if applicable
  • If the GVW is over 14,000 pounds or has changed, complete the GVW section on the back of the renewal notice.
  • IRS Form 2290 – required for vehicles weighing 55,000 lbs or more
  • Original completed form T-19C (Affidavit of Authority to Sign for a Company, Corporation or Partnership)
  • A valid Georgia driver’s license or ID card for the person on the T-19C authorized to sign for the company

Taxes Only – IRP Vehicles

  • Renewal notice
  • Completed IRP mileage Schedule G – Form T-239 (for apportioned vehicles owned greater than one year)
  • Original completed form T-19C
  • A valid Georgia driver’s license or ID card for the person on the T-19C authorized to sign for the company
